Coles County is the home of over 51,000 people in the center of a drawing area of over 130,000 population. The County is the proud home of Eastern Illinois University, Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital, Lincoln Log Cabin, Lake Land College, and multiple significant businesses and industry.

Coles County ranks 24th of the 26 Central Illinois County region for those who live below the poverty line.
